ULTA Brilliant Color Gloss in Apricot – Review and Swatch
Have you ever been accused of asking someone what they think only so you can do the opposite of what they say? I have – and i’ll own up to it. I’m hardly ever contrary just to be contrary but when I swatched this color on the back of my hand at ULTA and asked my boyfriend what he thought, the disgusted look on his face cinched my decision to buy it. And BOY am I glad I bought this! I love it so~
This is the first ULTA brand product i’ve ever purchased. I normally am hit or miss when it comes to store lines, but this was a definite hit for me. It’s normally $8 and is currently half off for $4 on the ULTA website.
The shade I picked up was #14, Apricot. ULTA describes their product below:
Brilliant Color Lip Gloss provides great color payoff with a high shine finish and non-sticky feel. Infused with Aloe and Vitamins A & E, formula hydrates and conditions lips.
Now, how infused is infused? Let’s see the ingredients list.
Polybutene, Octyldodecanol, Petrolatum, Beeswax, Ozokerite, Trihydroxystearin, Ricinus Communis (Castor Oil) Seed Oil, Flavor, Phenoxyethanol, BHT, Tocopheryl Acetate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract. May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 33 Lake (CI 17200), Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Mica (CI 77019), Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica, Tin Oxide.
Uh…yeah. That’s aloe at the bottom of the list. Anyway moving on!
Nothing special here. Typical plastic packaging with a transparent body and a metallic finish plastic cap. The plastic is on par with drugstore packaging. It has some give to it but hey, at least I can tell what color it is instead of just seeing the color of the plastic! It’s your typical doe foot applicator on the inside, here’s a peek:
As tends to happen, I believe that the images for #13 (Sweet Nectar) and #14 (Apricot) have been switched at ULTA.com. With that said, if you take that into account it’s quite accurate. I’d love to give you a picture but I can’t seem to find an official image! So mozy on over to the website (linked above) if you want to see. For now, here are my images:
I’m sorry that I couldn’t get you a more solid swatch, but the product was a bit sticky and tugged too much on my skin to get such a swatch.
There’s few things I dislike more than a sheer lipgloss that’s advertised as color packed. This lip gloss didn’t disappoint…not really anyway!
It’s a gloss and so it’s going to be sheer. There’s just no way around it. But for such a soft shade, there’s more than enough pigment to satisfy my opacity loving self.
I suggest swirling the color a little before you apply to avoid the collection of pigments in your fine lines (as seen above.)
I get about 1-3 hours of wear. Pretty typical – nothing special. It does tend to fade towards the lines, leaving that ugly color rim that is the bane of my existence. Luckily – it’s a gloss and easy enough to re-apply. It is not particularly drying but I definitely wouldn’t call it moisturizing. Also the color will collect in any lines you may have in your lips so proper SMOOSHING is a must.
This is the color that I had on in my review of MAC Peaches blush. It’s feminine, on par with this year’s color trends and super easy to wear. You get what you pay for in terms of quality and wear – but If you don’t mind reapplying I definitely suggest picking one up!
