Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Tipsy – Review and Swatch
Tipsy, tipsy, tipsy! I’ve been hearing a lot about this blush ever since I started my makeup journey. However, I have had almost nothing but bad experiences with Tarte Products and every time I swatched this in-store I was disappointed (yes!) at the pigmentation. So I put off buying it. Over, and over and over. But finally! I couldn’t take it anymore. I could always return it if it was a disaster right?
Many of you will be familiar with Tarte’s Amazonian Clay “12 Hour” blushes. They’re Holy Grail-status products for many a-beauty blogger and come in a wide variety of colors (8 on Tarte’s official website, but many other colors are released as part of LE sets.)
Each blush costs $25 USD and contains 5.6g / .20 Oz of product. Tarte prides itself on its product composition and these blushes are made with amazonian clay, beeswax, vitamins C and E. They do not contain mineral oil, parabens, phthalates (how do you pronounce that?), sodium lauryl sulfate or synthetic fragrance. They are also cruelty free.
Tarte describes Tipsy as a “coral.” I’m inclined to agree. It’s a very pretty, pink-undertoned coral both in the pan and on the face. You can view their product images on their site – they’re quite good and true-to-color. Great job Tarte!
Now, like I said above. Every single time I swatched this in-store it was not as pigmented as I wanted it to be. I’m starting to think these don’t like air – because the one I purchased for myself swatched completely differently than the ones on display. Even in the swatches above, you can see that the unblended and blended swatches are almost identical in terms of pigmentation aka: really strong.
Because the pigmentation on these is so strong, they could be a pain to apply. Luckily, Tipsy blends and layers well. It lets you go super sheer or REALLY bold if that’s more your taste. I’ve applied it very sheerly below (my preferred method of wearing it.)
This is my go-to barbie color now. I wear it when I want to feel super girly but still indulge my love of coral.
Yes, I did wear this for 12 hours for the sake of a thorough review. Yes, I have dry skin but oily cheeks. And no, it didn’t wear for 12 hours. Lightly applied it went about 6-7 on me, not too bad. Applied like the dickens and it made it to 9. So, I think it’s a good long-wearing product but not worthy of the 12 hour claim. Then again, we have 24 hour eyeshadow now so I feel like the rules on legitimate wear-claims are being thrown out the window anyway.
I LIKE Tipsy. It’s a beautiful color, applies nicely, wears well and has a great skin-healthy formula.
You get a fair amount of product but yes, it is a lot more expensive than other blushes.
Utilitarian plastic. It’s not superb but it does its job.
Color Accuracy: 10/10
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
It’s very well pigmented!
Definitely tread lightly if you’re paler or only have a full-blush brush.
Doesn’t live up to the 12 hour claim (on me!) But it is still VERY long lasting.
Overall: 88% (B+)
So, have in-store swatches ever misled you?
