Make Up Academy Lipstick in Shade 09 – Review and Swatch

Make Up Academy Lipstick - Shade 9

One of the best parts of getting makeup surprises are the … surprises. Okay okay, so that seems redundant, but it’s true! This lipstick is nothing I ever would have picked out for myself…but I love it! It’s a particularly special treat because MUA is only available in Europe! Again, I have the lovely Adrienne from The Sunday Girl to thank for this goodie~

Generic Information:

I have almost no information on MUA as a brand (outside of it being high-street/drugstore fare.) I’ve no idea how much Adrienne paid for this lippie but ATM it’s going for £1.00 or $1.62USD on the Superdrug website. For that low-low price you get 3.8g of lipstick (compare to MAC’s 3g!)

I count 13 avialable shades on the Superdrug website, but no shade names or indications of finishes. Having seen some swatches of other MUA lipsticks – I know they aren’t all the same finish. So there’s that to be disappointed over.

Color Accuracy:

The only color indicator I could find IRL or online is the little window swatch on the bottom of the lipstick tube. The official image gives a great shot of it.

09 Swatch

Safe to say that the accuracy is SUPER EFFECTIVE am I right?

I’ve noticed people have a hard time describing this shade. My go at it is a foiled berry shade with gold and silver frost. It’s really lovely and perfect for fall!

Pigmentation:

This is not the most pigmented lipstick that I own…but somehow I feel as if the pigmentation is just right for the color?

Application:

The bullet of this lippie is pretty soft, not unlike NYX lipsticks. It also has a very similar cosmetic/soapy scent, though not nearly as strong. Luckily, it doesn’t stick around after application. It goes on SUPER SUPER smoothly, no tugging at all. Despite the fact that it is a frosty/foiled lipstick, it has really nice even application.

Wear:

My major problem with this lipstick is the minimal wear I get out of it. Even sitting at the computer typing, I find myself re-applying every hour or two. And I don’t usually eat or drink at my computer so the fade is mostly the result of me pursing my lips.

Summary:

Value: 5/5

Color Accuracy: 10/10

Pigmentation: 7/10

Application: 9/10

Wear: 4/10

Overall: 77.7% (C+)

I know that it’s almost impossible for us Stateside to get ahold of, but you lucky ladies in the UK would be remiss not to take advantage of the great price and quality of this lippie!

I can’t believe this only retails for around $1USD!!! Bargain! The finish is lovely, and the colour is very wearable. Too bad about the wear time though, 1-2 hours is too short!
