June 2011 Birchbox
Aah! So I took my own advice and signed up for a Birchbox account. It shipped and I received it in 2 days, though Birchbox warns that shipping to the west coast can take up to 10 days. Word around the beauty block was that this box came with a full size Laura Geller Baked Blush-n-Highlight or Laura Geller Baked Blush-n-Brighten (valued alone at $29.50!) and I am here to confirm that it is true! But before I get to that, let’s take a trip down the fortuitous lane that was the receipt of my first Birchbox!
As I tweeted, last night my oldest cat decided to completely SHRED my arm. Luckily i’m trained in first aid and this has happened numerous times so I was able to disinfect and get everything bandaged right away. But he caused some minor tissue bruising that made my left arm more or less useless for a few hours. It’s better now but I’ve been nursing my wounds for the better part of a day. All was misery and woe until Parental Figure B brought in a cardboard box of JOY. I was painting my nails at the time so the manicure was ruined but the day was saved! I adore the packaging. It’s simple but girly.
Inside of the inner box was the card detailing what goodies came. Let’s see…
What some people may or may not know is that when you sign up for Birchbox you’re asked a number of questions. Your skin type, what you’re looking to get out of BB, what you will use it for etc. Not everyone gets the exact same products because not everyone gives the exact same answers. For example, you’ll notice that I received Orange Towelettes. People who are fairer skinned than I received self-tanners (bottles or wipes) in lieu of this item. People who didn’t mark combination skin (as I did) received a different type of toner too! There was also an “extra” sample of facial moisturizer; the types of which varied based on skin types. The differences aren’t random give and take – BB takes who you are into account!
As you can see (and click) above: I received Oscar Blandi’s Olio Di Jasmine Hair Serum, a sample of Kate Spade’s Twirl perfume, Pangea Organics Toner for Normal/Oily Skin, Herbal Essentials Orange Towelettes and Pangea Organics Facial Cream for normal to combination skin.
Buuuuut the real star of this box is obviously the full sized Laura Geller Laura Geller Baked Blush-n-Brighten! Different people received different colors and the one I got was shade “Honey Dipped.”
I wouldn’t call this a blush so much as a bronzer. There are some pink lines baked in but not nearly as much pink as some of the other tones. Honey dipped is really all about the golden hues. It’s a my skin but better shade for me, blending seamlessly onto my face and adding bronze to my paler underarm. Sorry for taking the sample so far down my wrist. I didn’t want to catch any of my awful cat-wounds in the shot (HE GOT MY SWATCHING ARM D; )
I’ll probably do a full review of this product in the future, but for now I give it an 8/10. It’s quite powdery (there was powder all over the cap when it arrived!), fairly pigmented and holds onto the skin for an average amount of time. The color is gorgeous and it’s especially lovely as an eyeshadow.
So that’s my June Birchbox! As always, you can sign up for the BirchBox service at this website. The subscription is $10 a month (no shipping, no taxes) and you can get a free month if you order a 12 month ($110) subscription.
Do any of you subscribe to BB? Do you want to?
